To my fellow lady golfers,

I hope you are all doing well and have been hitting the greens lately! Today, we are here to talk about all the must-haves in your golf bag (besides clubs). I’m referring to all those items that should go into your golf bag that will improve your readiness to play the game.

Side note, if you’re currently looking for a new stylish, yet functional golf bag, check out our previous post for some recommendations.

Trust me, not coming prepared for a round, especially a long & hot one, a wet & cold one, or even a round with people you don’t know is an absolute triple bogey in my book. Not only does it affect how you play, but it affects how much you enjoy playing.

So, ladies, as someone who loves a good checklist, here are the 10 things I always ensure are in my golf bag prior to hitting the greens, with of course, some vetted recommendations from yours truly. Amazon always offers some of the best, most affordable options for those who are swinging on a budget. I don’t ever see a need to spend hundreds on some items that can be done similarly with a much smaller price tag, so my goal here is to target affordable inspiration for you to make your golf bag —> golf ready.

  1. Tees & Golf Balls

None of us can play the game without tees & balls so this gets the number #1 spot! You should always have these in excess. I would start off by avoiding wood tees, they always break way too easily. Opt for plastic golf tees like those to the left — these are highly durable, have a 5-prong design to reduce friction during takeoff & my all-time favorite part of these tees is the marking system to ensure you have consistent ball height every drive.

As far as golf balls go, I would highly encourage investing in top-brand golf balls. You might think, “Hey let’s save money and buy the most affordable balls, it won’t affect my distance,” but it absolutely does! I’ve seen the difference with my own eyes & my own swing at the driving range. I also personally love to use bright, neon colored golf balls from time to time when I’m out there. You never get them confused with other golfers’ balls and are easy to catch with the contrast of the grass — plus, we’re all about some fun and flair here at The Tailored Tee.

I’m a major Titleist, Calloway or Taylor Made golf ball lover — The REVA Callaway balls are a great option and come in both pink and white.

  2. Women’s Golf Gloves

I know we all know this to be an absolute necessity, but my goal here is to help you find a high quality item, not only greatly reviewed, but as you’ve likely gathered from this website, one that is also more stylish by offering fun, personalized colors and/or patterns.

When it comes to glove shopping, you want to ensure it is breathable, has a long-lasting fabric & more importantly, is reviewed as such! The best way to get a feel on a product is to scour the reviews — lucky for you, I’ve done it for you & this women’s golf glove by Uther offers the best of both worlds — plus, how stinking cute are those flamingos!

  3. Ball Marker

For the best golf etiquette, you should always have a ball marker on hand. Especially on those rounds where you’re not golfing a foursome with friends or family & are golfing with people you haven’t golfed with before. Some golfers take having a marker on hand more seriously than others. Ball markers are fun & easy to shop for, with a low price tag. Amazon has plenty of options to add some personalized fun to your game.

  4. Range Finder

There are so many range finders on the market, it’s hard to know which one is right for you. To assist in this search, I’ve done the work to find a high-quality, affordable and greatly reviewed range finder for us ladies. This is just one of many great examples, but this rangefinder from Vovex offers a compact design, two fun color offerings, is highly reviewed to have long charge life (don’t need to replace batteries), accurate distance readings, and easy usability. It has 4.9 out of 5 stars on Amazon at an incredibly affordable price.

  5. Drying/Cleaning Towel

Just like golf ball quality, you might think to yourself that cleanliness of your ball and clubs has little effect on the swing outcome. Surprise, it does! The precision and trajectory are absolutely affected by dirt on both your club and/or your ball, so having a towel on hand can make a real difference in your game. Or, even to just wipe down your hands on a hot, sweaty golf day.

Don’t believe me on the clean ball effect? Check out this popular YouTube video by following the link here to see the impact that a clean ball has on putting trajectory. Amazon has plenty of magnetic or looped golf towels that have fun designs at an affordable price — there is no need to drop more than $20 on items like a ball marker, golf towel, etc.) — look to the right for an affordable combination of a golf towel, ball marker and divot tool.

  6. Women’s Golf Hat/Visor & Sunglasses

We all know it is incredibly important to find good, high-quality sun protection for your face and eyes while on the course. Throwing on a hat with a high or low pony can be the perfect way to do this. Look for options that offer moisture-wicking material to keep you cool and dry, taking into account that added bit of style. Oh, and look for mesh panels! See the Titleist cap to the right; this is polyester material, which is breathable, moisture-wicking and has vents for that extra head sweat us ladies get.

  7. Sunscreen & Chapstick

Easily forgotten but of pivotal importance. Be a way too easily sunburned, focused lip licker like myself & you’ll understand the necessity — a burned face and chapped lips after a round of golf is just not the vibe. So, along with everything else I’ve listed here, sunscreen and chapstick are items that I always check before heading out for a round.

  8. Extra Layers

I know there will be those times out on the course when the weather shifts unexpectedly or maybe you forgot to look at the forecast, and you’re left teeing off in the rain or wind. Less than ideal of course, but inevitable if you are a year-round golfer. So, I never leave my house without my bag being properly prepared for such conditions. I’m also just cold-blooded, so for me having an extra layer even on those sunny 60-degree days gives me the option in case I start to get a chill. Ultimately, having a backup long sleeve or rain jacket will make those who didn’t come prepared envious of your preparation.

  9. First Aid Kit

Picture yourself walking out of a sand trap you just hit a beautiful shot onto the green from, only to slip on the way out and badly scrap up your knee. You’re bleeding and didn’t bring a first aid kit to band aid it up, so you have to interrupt your round to go to the clubhouse. Or maybe, you partied a little hard the night before and the headache didn’t hit until hole #3, so you don’t have Advil to take the edge off. Even some Icy Hot for those injuries that are bound to occur at some point. Bottom line, it’s always good to have a few first aid items on hand, not only to help yourself out but to help those you’re playing with as well. You could be the prepared hero when accidents or pain strike.

  10. Phone to download the 18 Birdies app off the App Store

Obviously, we all have a phone on hand. Most of us iPhones or Android have access to the App Store where I highly suggest downloading the 18 Birdies app. I know this doesn’t really count as an item in your golf bag, but it is something that makes scoring rounds easy and accessible since I know we will all have our phones in our bags. The app is a golf GPS that enables easy tracking and storing of your scores so you can see how they’ve changed over time & track distances and holes on the course you’re playing on. It even connects to smartwatches so it can be accessed right from your wrist. Plus, you can share scores with friends who also have the app!

Now that you’ve got the lowdown on the 10 must-haves to pack in your golf bag before a round, you’re officially ready to hit the course! You’ll be the most prepared out there and these essentials will have you feeling comfortable and confident from tee to green.

Let me know your thoughts & if any of these items have saved a round catastrophe before! What am I missing in my golf bag that’s important to you?

Happy Golfing!
